STATE EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT COMMISSION
SUBCOMMITTEE ON PURCHASE OF SERVICE AND RELATED MATTERS

MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 26, 2018 MEETING

TRUSTEES PRESENT Sandra Fae Brown Brewton (via phone), Charles Casella, Robert Coffey, Ron McLellan

OTHERS PRESENT Colin Newman, Assistant Division Director, Retirement Services Division Amanda Alfonso, Retirement Services Division

The meeting began at 2:31 p.m.  

The Subcommittee discussed the following claims that had been administratively denied by the Retirement Services Division. All of the recommendations are unanimous unless noted accordingly. Michael Cole - Request received from Mr. Cole that he be allowed to purchase his prior military service beyond the one year deadline of the commencement of his state service.  

Action: Ms. Brown- Brewton moved, seconded by Mr. McLellan to recommend approval of Mr. Cole's request to purchase his prior military service.

Cynthia Dabbs-Lindenberger - Request received from Ms. Dabbs-Lindenberger that she be allowed to transfer her SERS plan membership from Tier II to Tier I and purchase all of her prior service.

Action: Mr. Casella moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend the approval of Ms. Dabbs-Lindenberger's request to transfer her SERS membership from Tier II to Tier I. Ms. Brown-Brewton dissented. Majority decision. 

Brian Sinclair - Request received from Mr. Sinclair that he be allowed to reinstate his disability retirement application that had been approved for discontinuance by the Retirement Commission at its April 19, 2018 meeting.

Action: Ms. Brown-Brewton moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend a denial of the request made by Mr. Sinclair to reinstate his disability retirement application that had been approved for discontinuance by the Retirement Commission at its April 19, 2018 meeting.

Marcia Weaver (Deceased) - Request received for Division approval of a late non-service connected disability retirement application filed on behalf of deceased employee Marcia Weaver.

Action: Mr. McLellan moved, seconded by Ms. Brown-Brewton to recommend denial of the application for non-service connected disability retirement for deceased employee Marcia Weaver.
