MINUTES OF June 4, 2014 MEETING

The meeting began at 1:12 p.m.
The Subcommittee discussed the following claims that had been administratively denied by the Retirement Services Division. All of the recommendations are unanimous unless noted accordingly.
Theresa Kelley-Coffey #589952 - Request received from Ms. Kelley-Coffey that she be granted additional hazardous duty retirement credit for her prior contractual service from July 1, 1991 to July 7, 1994.
Action: Mr. Casella moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend denial of
Ms. Kelly-Coffey's request for additional retirement credit for her prior
contractual service.
Catherine Conlin #325396 - Request received from Ms. Conlin that she given an opportunity to purchase additional ARP service for the purposes of transferring more service credit into the SERS Hybrid Plan.
Action: Ms. Yelmini moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend denial of
Ms. Conlin's request for an opportunity to purchase additional ARP service.
Edward Dobbins (MERS) - Request received from Mr. Dobbins that the effective
date of his disability retirement be adjusted from December 5, 2011 to March 20,
2014.
Action: Mr. Coffey moved, seconded by Ms. Yelmini to recommend denial of
Mr. Dobbin's request that the effective date of his disability retirement
benefit be adjusted.
Olivia Fernandez (Deceased) #511785 - Request received from Ms. Fernandez's
spouse to have a posthumous disability retirement application made on behalf of
Ms. Fernandez.
Action: Ms. Yelmini moved, seconded by Mr. McLellan to recommend denial
of the request to have a posthumous disability retirement application made for
Ms. Fernandez.
Rudolph Morin II (Deceased) #494811- Request received from Mr. Morin's spouse to
have a posthumous disability retirement application made on behalf of Mr. Morin.
Action: Mr. Casella moved, seconded by Ms. Yelmini to recommend approval
of the request to have a posthumous disability retirement application made on
behalf of Mr. Morin.
Thomas Okafor (Retiree) #580387- Request received from Mr. Okafor that his
vested rights retirement benefit be made retroactive to August 1, 2012.
Action: Ms. Yelmini moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend denial of
Mr. Okafor's request to receive his vested rights retirement benefit retroactive
to August 1, 2012.
James J. O'Neill #713900- Request received from Mr. O'Neill that he be allowed
to transfer his SERS retirement plan membership from Tier II to Tier I.
Action: Ms. Yelmini moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend denial of
Mr. O'Neill's request to transfer his retirement plan membership.
Elaine O'Reilly #362123- Request received from Ms. O'Reilly that she receive
retirement credit in Tier I without payment of any contributions that would be
due for unpaid voluntary leave taken.
Action: Ms. Yelmini moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend denial of
Ms. O'Reilly's request to receive retirement credit without payment of the
necessary contribution amounts due.
John G. Patterson #552087- Request received from Mr. Patterson that he be
allowed to change his type of retirement from hazardous duty to disability.
Action: Ms. Yelmini moved, seconded by Mr. Coffey to recommend denial of
Mr. Patterson's request to change his type of retirement. Mr. Casella dissented.
Majority decision.
