COMPTROLLER LEMBO SAYS GOVERNOR'S BUDGET IS INNOVATIVE AND FEASIBLE WITH BROAD COLLABORATION

"My office has closely reviewed Governor Malloy's budget plan - and we are continuing our own aggressive efforts to identify and implement efficiencies and cost-savings in state government.

"Governor Malloy's plan is historically ambitious and innovative - but achievable only if all stakeholders collaborate honestly and recognize the need for shared pain.

"The administration managed to build a substantial framework for responsible budgeting in a painfully short period of time - enabling the legislature and state agencies to work towards authorizing and implementing these fiscal choices as quickly as possible.

"The Office of the State Comptroller has extensive experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and anticipates partnering with the administration to implement more honest budgeting and financial reporting across the board, as we have long advocated.

"As the legislative process moves forward, my office will continue to advocate measures to unify the state's purchasing power to achieve greater leverage and cost savings. We will also continue to adopt efficiencies, building on our announcement this week that our office will transition the state to a paperless payroll system that saves resources and dollars.

"I am confident that these efforts will effectively complement the administration's agenda, and achieve real results."
