Attention:	Chief Administrative and Fiscal Officers, Business Managers, and Payroll and Personnel Officers
Subject:	Revision of Maximum Per Diem Rates for Localities

The federal per diem rates stated in Memorandum No. 2000-02 have been revised for travel in the United States effective October 1, 2000. New per diem localities have been added. Federal per diem rates for meals and incidental expenses are $30, $34, $38, $42 and $46 dependent on the locality. A detailed listing of all localities in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii is attached in the revised Appendix A.

Information concerning per diem rates for travel in foreign countries can be found on the Department of State website at http://www.state.gov/www/perdiems/index.html.

Any collective bargaining meals, per diem and incidental expenses exceeding the applicable rate are reportable.

Unless otherwise specified, the per diem locality is defined as "all locations within, or entirely surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city, including independent entities located within those boundaries".
Per diem localities with county definitions shall include "all locations within, or entirely surrounded by, the corporate limits of the key city as well as the boundaries of the listed counties, including independent entities located within the boundaries of the key city and the listed counties".
