Medical Examining Board
By statute, the Governor appoints a board of seven physicians to serve at his or her pleasure to sit on the Medical Examining Board (MEB). A panel composed of members of the MEB conducts hearings on applications for disability retirement, performs medical record(s) review with regard to applications for disability retirement, has the right to compel a member to submit to a medical exam if it so desires and may conduct reexaminations as to continuance of disability. The MEB makes findings regarding eligibility and reports its findings to the Retirement Commission.
