State Comptroller Nancy Wyman and officials from Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut today delivered a $5,000 donation to My Sister's Place shelter for homeless women and children in Hartford.

My Sister's Place provides services to the homeless, victims of domestic violence, and those suffering from mental illness or who are afflicted with AIDS. The non-profit organization also provides transitional housing for women and children at a 20-apartment building on Pliny Street, and provides mental health and substance-abuse counseling.

The donation from Anthem's charitable-giving fund was suggested by Wyman because of My Sister's Place long record of providing these vital services in Hartford.

"For more than 15 years, My Sister's Place has been a lifeline for thousands of women and children who have nowhere else to turn," Wyman said. "I can't think of a more worthy or deserving organization for this donation."

The check was presented to Sister Holly Cloutier, My Sister's Place program director, by Wyman and Gray Somers, Anthem's Vice President and General Manager of public sector accounts. Also attending was State Rep. Marie Kirkley-Bey, D-Hartford.

"Programs like My Sister's Place are making a difference in the lives of so many whose unique needs challenge our social service and health care systems," Somers said. "Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut is pleased and proud to present this check to help this organization's important and meaningful work."
