TO THE HEADS OF ALL STATE AGENCIES
| ATTENTION: | Chief Administrative and Fiscal Officers and Business Managers |
| SUBJECT: | Use of Town Codes |
Agencies must use the appropriate town code when processing payments to municipalities. Please adhere to the following procedures:
The State Accounting Manual (Section 11, Town Coding Table 3.5) contains a listing of town code numbers which represent unique identifiers that have been assigned to towns, cities, boroughs, school districts and other municipal entities. They range from 1 to 999 and are used to classify payments.
Do not use the town's Federal Employer Identification Number. Listed below are valid town code numbers:
| 001 - 169 | Towns |
| 201 - 231 | School Districts/Cooperating School Districts |
| 241 - 253 | Interdistrict committees and regional education service centers |
| 301 - 377 | Fire Districts |
| 401 - 417 | Health Districts |
| 451 - 458 | Lake Authorities |
| 501 - 503 | Cities not consolidated with towns |
| 601 - 611 | Boroughs not consolidated with towns |
| 701 - 798 | Other (boards, planning agencies, sewer districts, etc.) |
For further information concerning town payments, contact Vendor File Coordinator at (860) 702-3405 or Special Processing at (860) 702-3403.
