Caremark Mailing Update, Implementation of New Pharmacy Benefit & Recommendation Regarding Implementing the Edit on Mandatory Generic for new scripts
The Caremark mailing to participants was discussed, with the last mailing to active employees taking place by last Friday.  The Committee voted to recommend that the mandatory generic edit for new scripts begin 9/1/2009 since that would give participants and their physicians' adequate time to adjust to the new pharmacy benefit arrangement.

Other Issues Related to RIPers
Regarding the Retirement Incentive Plan (RIP) rumors were spread last week indicating that some RIPers who experienced a delay in their July retirement check would also face a gap in health insurance coverage.  The Healthcare Policy & Benefit services Division issued a communication last week to HR and payroll officers informing them that this is not true and that all July retirees would continue to be covered by health insurance without interruption.

Monthly Reports
Steve May presented the monthly claims reports of the medical and dental carriers.  Anthem was not able to provide up-to-date numbers, but Healthnet and United Healthcare did.  Overall, the state medical plans had a 97 percent loss ratio.  The UHC Dental plans also had a 97 percent loss ratio for the fiscal year just ended.

September's meeting will focus on reviewing the medical carriers' adherence to performance guarantees.  In addition, the carriers will be asked about their programs related to obesity and how we can step up the State's activity in obesity reduction activities.

The meeting adjourned at 10:30.
